Puri, June 6: On the occasion of World Environment Day 2025, celebrated globally on June 5, renowned sand artist and Padma Shri awardee Sudarsan Pattnaik unveiled a powerful sand art installation at Puri Beach, Odisha. The centerpiece—a 30-foot-long fish-shaped sand sculpture—was created using approximately 6 tons of sand and 1,000 plastic bottles and caps, delivering a strong message: “Beat Plastic Pollution.”

This thought-provoking installation highlights the devastating impact of single-use plastics, which often end up in oceans, rivers, and landscapes, posing serious threats to both wildlife and human health. The sculpture vividly illustrates the consequences of plastic waste in our environment.

Students from Pattnaik’s sand art institute collaborated with him to bring the artwork to life, demonstrating the importance of community involvement in environmental action.

“Small steps make a big impact. Start today for a better tomorrow,” said Pattnaik, encouraging people to take meaningful actions against plastic pollution.

Over the years, Sudarsan Pattnaik has participated in more than 65 international sand sculpture championships and festivals, earning numerous accolades and bringing pride to India. He is known for using his art to raise awareness on critical global issues, including HIV/AIDS, COVID-19, global warming, terrorism, and environmental conservation.

Through each creation, Pattnaik continues to use his artistic platform to educate, inspire, and advocate for a cleaner, safer planet.
