Puri, June 18: In a significant development for the much-awaited Rath Yatra, the construction of the three majestic chariots is nearing completion with the chief Maharana, along with fellow volunteers and artisans, working on the final touches with full enthusiasm.

A total of 34 artists, under the guidance of the chief artist Debaraj Mahapatra, have been engaged in the painting and decoration of the three chariots. Their work is crucial to the overall aesthetic and cultural significance of the event.

Yesterday, the initial groundwork was completed with the placement of the first layer of foundation on both sides of the chariots. The second layer was marked by the installation of intricate black banners, which symbolize strength and power, along with additional black strips that completed the third layer of the design.

Today, the final touch was added with the addition of decorative belongings, including intricate wooden designs, and the chariot’s base was integrated with a unique ceramic setting.

Today, the workers have successfully completed the four corner decorations of the chariots, and the area around the platform has seen significant progress with the application of various designs and banners. These decorative enhancements will continue after the chariots are placed on their designated platform, adding to the grandeur of the event.

In preparation for the Rath’s ceremonial Simhasana and the main rituals, five large ceremonial banners measuring 20 feet each have been draped on the platform. The decorative wooden carvings that border the altars have been completed, ensuring a visually stunning and sacred atmosphere for the devotees.

Additionally, the frame for the entrance doors of the chariots has been finished today, with the decoration of the gates still pending. Once the decorative tapestries and banners are placed, the gates will be ready for the procession.

The artisans have made significant strides, having completed 16 of the 32 wooden decorative pieces on the three chariots. These pieces will soon be ready for the final painting phase, which will transform them into works of art. As the painting progresses, the chariots are expected to be completely ready for the festival. The intricate carvings on the chariot's body, including lion, elephant, and human figures, have been finalized, adding cultural depth to the structure.

Along with these carvings, artisans have also begun working on painting the deities' statues, enhancing the visual appeal of the Rath Yatra.

The outer sections of the chariots are also receiving attention. Various symbols like lotus flowers, incense burners, and other auspicious motifs are being painted, adding a sacred dimension to the overall design.

In the temporary workshops set up at the site, a team of blacksmiths is working on the installation of clamps and metal fittings necessary for the structural integrity of the chariots. They are also working on door frames and other metal components required for the procession.

The tailors are working tirelessly on the intricate embroidery and lace fittings for the chariot coverings. These decorative pieces are essential for the visual presentation and will soon be completed with silver lace stitching.

With all of these efforts, the construction of the chariots for the Rath Yatra is progressing smoothly. The anticipation is building as the grand event draws nearer, promising to be a spectacular sight for the devotees and the community.

The ongoing craftsmanship and dedication of all involved indicate that this year’s Rath Yatra will be an event to remember.
