New Delhi, May 26: India has recorded a total of 1,009 active COVID-19 cases, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
The latest update includes 752 new infections, with Kerala topping the list at 430 active cases.
Other states reporting a notable number of cases include Maharashtra (209), Delhi (104), Gujarat (83), and Karnataka (47).
A 21-year-old COVID-19 patient from Mumbra, who was undergoing treatment at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Kalwa Hospital in Thane since May 22, 2025, has died, confirmed the Thane Municipal Corporation.
On Saturday, Union Health Secretary Punya Salila Srivastava reviewed the rising cases in states like Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, and Karnataka. Most reported cases are mild and managed at home, officials said.
The Union Health Ministry, through its agencies, continues to monitor the situation closely. Surveillance is ongoing under the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP) and the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).
While COVID-19 is now treated as a routine viral illness, authorities urge the public to maintain basic precautions, such as hand hygiene, wearing masks in crowded places, and avoiding unnecessary gatherings, to curb the spread.
