Keonjhar, June 13: In a tragic mishap, at least three people including a minor boy were killed after a speeding truck hit their bike at Thakurdihi Chowk area under Sadar police limits in Odisha’s Keonjhar district on Thursday.
The deceased persons have been identified as Badal Naik (22), Sanat Naik (21) and Bibhu Barik (15) of Suakati under Keonjhar Sadar police limits.
As per reports, the mishap took place in the afternoon when the trio was riding their bike to withdraw money from Suakati Bank and a speeding truck hit them from the front.
Following the mishap, the truck driver fled the spot along with the vehicle.
While one of them died on the spot, locals rescued the two others and rushed them to Keonjhar District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) in a critical condition where they succumbed to the injuries while undergoing treatment.
The mishap triggered massive public outrage in the area with hundreds of irate locals staging a road blockade on Suakati-Keonjhar road, thereby affecting vehicular movement.
Upon getting the information, police arrived at the spot and pacified the agitators. The cops also seized the bodies of the victims and sent them for post-mortem.
Three cases have been registered in connection with the road mishap and further investigation is underway, said the police.
