Kendrapara, May 23: The Odisha High Court has stepped in after a vedio report by Prameya showed 80-year-old Sridhar Sahu from Kor village crawling on the road to collect his pension.
Following the report, the High Court directed officials to visit Sridhar and check on his condition. The Secretary of the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) visited his home and later informed the court about Sridhar’s poor health and neglected living conditions through a video conference.
Taking serious note of the situation, the court ordered the local administration to provide Sridhar with a permanent house under the government housing scheme, an electricity connection, and proper healthcare services.
Kendrapara BDO Abhishek Swain, District Social Security Officer Rupali Priyadarshini, and BSSCO Sudipta Mahapatra were present during the visit, along with DLSA officials.
The High Court also instructed that similar support should be extended to all eligible people in the district.
Worth mentioning, Sridhar had been regularly collecting his pension from the local Panchayat office without issues. However, this month, the Panchayat Executive Officer reportedly refused to hand over the allowance to his family member, forcing the octogenarian to make the journey on his own.
