Bhubaneswar, June 9: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi today announced an increase in financial assistance provided to the families of victims of wild animal attacks. The ex-gratia amount for loss of life due to such incidents has been raised from ₹6 lakh to ₹10 lakh.
This decision comes in light of frequent human-wildlife conflicts, particularly in villages located near forested areas, where such attacks often lead to the loss of lives and property. Recognizing the hardships faced by the affected families, the state government has decided to enhance the support provided to them.
As per the new guidelines, in cases where a victim’s house is damaged during an animal attack, and the household is not already covered under the Antyodaya Housing Scheme, the government will provide equivalent financial assistance for reconstruction.
Additionally, compensation of ₹3,000 will be given for the loss or damage of essential structures like kitchens, paddy storage units, or goat sheds.
In the case of damage to permanent boundary walls or compound walls, the state will provide assistance at the rate of ₹5,000 per meter, with a maximum limit of ₹25,000.
