The elderly man has been identified as Sridhar Sahu. According to sources, Sridhar had been regularly collecting his pension from the local Panchayat office without issues. However, this month, the Panchayat Executive Officer reportedly refused to hand over the allowance to his family member, forcing the octogenarian to make the journey on his own.
Visuals of Sridhar crawling along the village road drew the attention of hundreds of residents, who were moved by the sight and stopped him midway to offer help. Tensions escalated as Sridhar proceeded to confront the Panchayat Executive Officer regarding the denial of his allowance. Meanwhile, the Executive Officer met Sridhar halfway and hand over the allowance money in person. The gesture, brought some relief to the elderly man.
The incident has sparked criticism from locals and social media users as well, who have demanded accountability and better treatment of the elderly in the distribution of welfare schemes.
