New Delhi, June 9: Lt Gen Rajiv Ghai has been appointed as the Deputy Chief of Army Staff (Strategy) while continuing as Director General of Military Operations (DGMO). The role, a key strategic post overseeing Operations and Intelligence, is part of a newly created vertical in the Indian Army.
Lt Gen Ghai, who received the Uttam Yudh Seva Medal on June 4 for his leadership during Operation Sindoor, had famously received a ceasefire request from Pakistan’s DGMO amid India’s precision strikes. Earlier this year, he assessed border security in Manipur and emphasized a whole-of-government approach to regional stability. A veteran from the Kumaon Regiment, he has led critical operations, including counter-insurgency efforts as the former GOC of the Chinar Corps.
