New Delhi, June 10: According to the latest UN Population Fund report, India remains the world’s most populous country with an estimated 1.46 billion people in 2025. However, the country’s Total Fertility Rate (TFR) has dropped to 1.9, below the replacement level of 2.1, indicating fewer births per woman.

Despite this, India’s youth population remains strong, with 68% aged 15-64.

Life expectancy stands at 71 for men and 74 for women.

The UN highlighted that India’s fertility rate has declined from nearly 5 in 1970 to about 2 today, due to improved education and reproductive healthcare access, contributing to lower maternal mortality and healthier communities.
