India Takes Proactive Steps to Safeguard Citizens in Iran
Amid the escalating conflict between Israel and Iran, the Indian government is taking decisive action to protect its nationals. The Indian Embassy in Tehran issued an updated advisory on Tuesday, confirming that Indian students have been moved out of the capital city for safety reasons. The embassy has also strongly advised all other Indian nationals and Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs) who can arrange their own resources to move to safe locations outside of Tehran.
This urgent alert follows a warning from US President Donald Trump, who urged for an immediate evacuation of Tehran. The Indian Embassy has confirmed that it facilitated the evacuation of some Indian citizens via the Armenia border.
In a post on the social media platform X, the Embassy stated, "All Indian nationals and PIOs who can move out of Tehran using their own resources, are advised to move to a safe location outside the City." It also issued a directive for all Indians in Tehran who have not yet registered with the embassy to do so immediately, providing their current location and contact numbers. The embassy has shared three dedicated helpline numbers for this purpose.
To manage the situation effectively, India's Ministry of External Affairs has established 24/7 control rooms in both Israel and Iran. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal confirmed this measure as the two nations continued their military engagements for a fifth consecutive day. This proactive approach ensures that Indian citizens in the conflict region have a constant and reliable point of contact for assistance and information. The government's swift actions underscore its commitment to the safety and well-being of its diaspora during this period of heightened regional instability.
