Cuttack, June 18: A tragic incident unfolded in Badbarsingh village under Badamba police limits of Cuttack district, where a family dispute took a devastating turn, leading to the death of two women and leaving one man critically ill after all three allegedly consumed poison.
The deceased have been identified as Nibasi Senapati (55), the mother-in-law, and Sangita Senapati (29), the daughter-in-law. The third victim, Bhagirathi Senapati, son of Nibasi and husband of Sangita, remains in critical condition and is currently undergoing treatment.
According to preliminary reports, the three family members consumed poison on Monday following an ongoing domestic conflict. Upon discovering the incident, relatives rushed the trio to the Badamba Group Health Centre. However, doctors declared both Nibasi and Sangita dead on arrival. Bhagirathi was initially treated at the Athagarh Medical Centre, but due to his worsening condition, he was referred to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack for advanced care.
Police from Badamba Police Station reached the spot and initiated a detailed investigation. Station Officer Aniruddha Muduli confirmed that two separate cases of unnatural death have been registered.
Meanwhile, Sreedhar Sahu, brother of the deceased Sangita, and Tukula Senapati, brother of Nibasi, have filed formal complaints, alleging that the deaths were caused by deliberate poisoning. Police are probing the incident from all possible angles, including potential foul play.
Further investigation is underway.
