Lucknow, June 08: Indian cricketer Rinku Singh got engaged to newly elected Member of Parliament Priya Saroj on Sunday in a private ceremony held in Lucknow. The couple will tie the knot on November 18 at the Taj Hotel in Varanasi, according to family sources.
The engagement was a grand affair, attended by close family and several notable political figures. Among the dignitaries present were Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, Dimple Yadav, veteran actress and Rajya Sabha MP Jaya Bachchan, along with party leaders Ram Gopal Yadav and Shivpal Yadav. BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla also graced the occasion, extending his best wishes to the couple.
Though many of Rinku's teammates were unable to attend the function due to the Indian Test squad’s ongoing tour of England, former India pacer Praveen Kumar was present and offered his heartfelt congratulations to the couple.
Rinku Singh, originally from Aligarh, has made a name for himself in international cricket, having represented India in two ODIs and 33 T20Is. A vital part of the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) setup, Rinku played a significant role in the franchise’s title win in the 2024 Indian Premier League season.
Priya Saroj, 26, is a first-time Member of Parliament from the Machhlishahr constituency in Uttar Pradesh. A practising lawyer by profession, she is one of the youngest MPs in the country. Priya hails from Karkhiyaon village in Varanasi and has entered public service by carrying forward the political legacy of her father, Tufani Saroj—a three-time MP and current MLA from Kerakat in Uttar Pradesh.
The engagement marks a significant moment, bringing together two rising stars from the fields of sports and politics. With their wedding scheduled in Varanasi later this year, the union of Rinku Singh and Priya Saroj is expected to be another grand celebration.
