Bhubaneswar, June 10: The Commissionerate Police in Bhubaneswar on Monday arrested a 32-year-old man for allegedly duping a businessman of over Rs 1 crore on pretext of helping him buy a luxury car at a discounted price.
The accused has been identified as Sambit Panda, a resident of Sailashree Vihar area under Chandrasekharpur police limits in city.

According to the police, the businessman met Panda in March 2023. Panda said he was a freelance car broker and resale luxury vehicles. He promised to help the businessman buy a luxury car at a discounted price within a month.
As part of the deal, the businessman gave Panda Rs 1.08 crore to buy the luxury car. But Panda never arranged the car. When the businessman asked for his money back, Panda allegedly threatened him. Later, the businessman found out that Panda had used fake documents to cheat him.
The businessman also found out that Panda had been involved in similar cheating cases before.
The Infocity Police in the capital city registered a case and started an investigation under different sections of the BNS. The cops arrested Panda at a vehicle showroom in the Cantonment area of Cuttack city. During questioning, he admitted to the crime, said the police.
Further investigation into the matter was underway.
