Bhubaneswar, May 20: In a major statement, Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) Mayor Sulochana Das said that Bangladeshi infiltrators residing in the city will be identified and removed. The civic body will extend full cooperation to the state government in implementing the decision, she said.

Addressing the issue, Mayor Das revealed that Bangladeshi nationals have been residing in areas such as Shreeya Chhak and Azad Nagar in the city. However, she clarified that those possessing valid identity documents like voter ID, Aadhaar, or ration cards will not face any action.

“Individuals lacking proper documentation or land records will be identified and evicted from the city. Those who have illegally crossed the border into India will be tracked and dealt with as per the law,” she stated, adding, “National security is our top priority and a collective responsibility.”

Meanwhile, a high-level meeting has been convened by the Ministry of Home Affairs to discuss the identification of Bangladeshi nationals in Odisha. Senior officials including the Director General of Police, DG of Crime Branch, IG, and DIG are expected to participate. The process of preparing a comprehensive list of suspected Bangladeshi residents in the state is already underway.
